Security firm Reliance in the running for satellite tagging contract
Reliance is one of three companies in the running for a multi-million pound contract to tag sex offenders in England, it was reported today.
The scheme is the first of its kind in Europe to use satellite tracking to check every move of paedophiles, violent criminals and sex offenders.
The news was greeted with concern by victims groups following a series of mistakes by Reliance's division Reliance Custodial Services, which led to the accidental release of a total of 12 prisoners.
Meanwhile Reliance Custodial Services starts taking over Tayside and Fife court escort duties today.
It will provide escorts to and from prisons at Perth, Castle Huntly and Noranside as well as six sheriff courts and seven district courts.
