More support for crime victims

VIA service to be extended to the Borders

Victims of crime in the Borders are to receive extra support following the extension of the Edinburgh based Victim Information and Advice (VIA) service to offices in Selkirk,
Jedburgh and Duns.

VIA is part of the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service and provides a dedicated service to victims of crime, bereaved next-of-kin and vulnerable witnesses.

It offers information on the progress of their case, the range of practical and emotional support available, and the criminal justice system in general.

Sue Moody, Director of VIA said: "The path through the criminal justice system can be difficult and distressing for victims, bereaved relatives and vulnerable witnesses. The VIA staff at Edinburgh will guide those in the Borders region along that path, showing the way through the system by offering information and advice to those who need it most."
