Caroline Flanagan will be the next President of the Law Society of Scotland

Caroline Flanagan has been elected the next President of The Law Society of Scotland.

She will succeed incumbent President Duncan Murray, in May 2005.

Duncan Murray said: "I'm delighted that Caroline has been elected as President elect. The profession is well placed to meet the challenges at an exciting time and Caroline provides a constructive and intelligent contribution, which I'm sure will stand her in good stead."

Caroline Flanagan, a partner with Ross & Connel in Dunfermline, is an accredited specialist in family law and joined the Council in 1998 before going on to serve as convener of a number of committees, including Education & Training, Admissions and Civil Procedure.

Looking forward to the year ahead, she commented: "It's an honour for me to have been elected. The challenges ahead offer an opportunity to promote the interests of the public and solicitors' profession in Scotland."

Ruthven Gemmell, a partner and Head of Asset Management at Murray Beith Murray, Edinburgh, has been elected as the next Vice President.
