An egg thief is first to be jailed under new Scots wildlife laws
A serial egg thief became the first person in Scotland to be jailed under Scotland's new wildlife protection laws.
Londoner Matthew Gonshaw was convicted of having 30 wild birds' eggs in his possession on Tiree.
He was sentenced to four months in prison, after pleading guilty to three contraventions of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981. Last year the Act was amended by the Scottish Parliament to permit a jail term where the maximum penalty had previously been a fine.
