A student is taking legal action against executive in a bid to end higher fees for English

A philosophy student is taking legal action against the Scottish Executive for discrimination over tuition fees.

Emma Block, 22, who is in her third year at Glasgow University, believes it is unfair that she is charged higher fees because she is English.

She has enlisted the help of Jack Rabinowicz, one of the UK's leading education lawyers, to fight her case.

Students who have lived in Scotland for more than three years and those from other countries in the European Union pay £2000 when they have completed their degree.

Their counterparts in England not only have to pay £1,250 a year but also provide the fees at the start of each academic year.
