Second special advocate resigns over terrorist suspect detention system
A second lawyer appointed as a special advocate to represent foreign detainees before the Special Immigration Appeals Commission, has resigned in protest at the system.
In his resignation letter to the Attorney General, Rick Scannell described his continued participation in the regime under which foreigners considered a security threat are detained without trial, as "wholly untenable".
Last month Ian Macdonald QC also resigned after the House of Lords ruled the system illegal. The Government has yet to announce its intentions in light of the ruling.
