Slopping out appeal

Appeal against slopping out compensation to begin
An appeal against a court ruling which granted compensation to a prisoner for breaches of his human rights including being forced to slop out, is due to start today.
Robert Napier was granted £2,400 after arguing successfully that his treatment while sharing a cell on remand in Barlinnie Prison in Glasgow was degrading.
If the appeal is unsuccessful, it could cost the Scottish Prison Service millions of pounds as an estimated 700 prisoners have lodged similar claims.
SPS accounts recently revealed that a contingency of £26m had been made following the Napier case.
