Glasgow solicitor Vincent Smith appointed to vacant post

The Queen, on the recommendation of the First Minister, has appointed Mr Vincent J G Smith, partner in Lavery, Smith & Co, Glasgow, as Sheriff of South Strathclyde, Dumfries and Galloway at Hamilton.

Mr Smith (50), a part time sheriff since 2003, will succeed Sheriff Simon Pender who transferred to Dumbarton last year.

The First Minister accepted a recommendation of the Judicial Appointments Board for Scotland. Mr Smith will take office shortly.
