Drunk driver jailed

A drunk driver who killed a leading law academic has been given a five year prison sentence

A drunk driver who killed Stirling University Director of Law Douglas Vick has been jailed for five years.

Mr Vick was thrown 20ft into the air after Mark O'Malley's high powered car spun out of control on a bend outside Dunblane last May and hit him.

The High Court in Glasgow heard that O'Malley, who was driving home the afternoon after a party, was almost three times over the drink drive limit.

However he claimed that he had not had a drink for 10 hours and 'felt okay' to drive.
