Strong response to anti-drugs campaign

"Drug Dealers Don't Care, Do You?" campaign generates 431% rise in calls to Crimestoppers

Eighteen drug dealers have been arrested and more than £100,000 worth of drugs have been seized in the first three weeks of the "Drug Dealers Don't Care, Do You?" campaign.

The campaign has generated 1,227 drug-related calls to Crimestoppers, a 431% increase over the normal volume.

Deputy Justice Minister Hugh Henry welcomed the figures. Mr Henry said: "Drugs devastate families, damage communities and feed crime. Scottish Ministers are on the side of law-abiding communities who want to put a stop to their deadly dealing and this campaign is helping to do exactly that.

"I am encouraged by the public response and urge people to continue to share information that can help get dealers off the streets.

"People should be clear - a call to Crimestoppers is anonymous. I know it can be a difficult call to make, but every call helps the police to build information on local drug dealing."
