Sixty one new solicitors formally admitted at enrolment ceremony

Sixty-one new solicitors from around Scotland have been formally admitted to the profession in a ceremony at the Signet Library in Edinburgh.

The latest intake, two-thirds female, were presented with their enrolment certificates before an address by Professor Sir David Edward, a former judge at the European Court of Justice.

President of the Law Society of Scotland, Duncan Murray, commented: "This is an exciting time to become a solicitor. The challenges for the profession are constantly evolving in line with client demand, and fresh intakes of talent ensure that this process is driven on."

Addressing the ceremony, Sir David Edward said: "The legal profession in Scotland has changed out of all recognition since I became an advocate in 1962. It has become more lively and forward looking and the Law Society of Scotland deserves much of the credit for that."
