Ladette culture blamed for rise in women convicted of drink driving
The number of women convicted of drink driving has soared by a third in the six years to 2002, according to Executive figures.
They showed that in Central Scotland convictions increased from 32 in 1997 to 85 in 2002, while in Fife numbers rose from 52 to 97.
The total number of women convicted in court of the offence went up from 796 to 1,064.
However male drivers convicted of the offence still outnumber women by eight to one.
Kenny MacAskill, SNP's justice spokesman said the rise in women offenders was a sign of "ladette" culture transferring to offending behaviour.
