Robert Carr to succeed Alan Menzies as chair of Anderson Strathern

Robert Carr has been elected chairman of Edinburgh law firm Anderson Strathern. He takes over on 1 May when Alan Menzies steps down from the role after nearly nine years and returns to full time client work.

A solicitor advocate, Mr Carr is a partner in the Dispute Resolution Department and is best known for his work in medical negligence and healthcare. He won the Specialist of the Year trophy at the Scottish Legal Awards in 2004. Among other positions he is chair of the Law Society Committee on Rights of Audience and sits on the Scottish Law Commission Group examining time bar issues in personal injury claims.

"I am taking the helm of a truly wonderful law firm", he commented, "one that I firmly believe can be the best full service law firm in Scotland.

"This is no idle statement. We face many challenges and operate in an increasingly competitive environment. As chairman I will have a specific role in ensuring client satisfaction and facilitating discussion on the strategic direction of the firm."

Robin Stimpson, the firm's managing partner, said: "Robert is not only a highly respected lawyer, but a creative and inspiring manager. I look forward to working with him in growing the firm."
