Tagging for murder suspects

Alleged murderers and rapists could be tagged and released on bail under new proposals
Proposals to tag alleged rapists and murders and release them on bail will be put to the Scottish Executive this week.
The Sentencing Commission will recommend that the tagging scheme, already used for some convicted criminals, be made available to judges as an option for remand prisoners.
The Commission is also understood to be calling for tighter guidelines for granting bail to create a more uniform sentencing policy.
Research for the Executive found 29% of those freed on bail went on to commit further offences.
