Sheriff Principal Edward Bowen QC, of the Sheriffdom of Glasgow and Strathkelvin since 1997, is to transfer to Lothian and Borders.
He succeeds Sheriff Principal Iain Macphail QC, recently appointed to the Supreme Court bench. Sheriff Principal Bowen also serves as a temporary judge in the higher courts.
The Judicial Appointments Board for Scotland is to hold an open competition to fill the vacancy in Glasgow and Strathkelvin, and also for the of Sheriffdom of South Strathclyde, Dumfries and Galloway, as Sheriff Principal John McInnes QC is to retire later this year.
The appointments have also been announced of Vincent Smith, solicitor in Glasgow, as resident sheriff at Hamilton, succeeding Sheriff Simon Pender who has transferred to Dumbarton, and Paul Arthurson, advocate, as floating sheriff of Tayside, Central and Fife, Sheriff Elizabeth Munro having become a resident sheriff at Dundee.
