Colin Liddell, a solicitor from Pitlochry, has been appointed as a Trustee to the Board of the Scottish Community Foundation.
Mr Liddell, senior partner of J & H Mitchell WS in Pitlochry and an accredited specialist in charity law, plans to give something back to the community by giving his time for free to work with the national organisation.
The Community Foundation aims to assist companies and individuals in Scotland to plan better their charitable donations to registered charities or community projects in their chosen geographical area and in accordance with their favourite causes.
All the charities are fully assessed by the Foundation so donors can be assured that their money is being spent wisely and that their charitable giving takes full advantage of tax breaks available. The Foundation was set up in Scotland in 1996 and since then it has distributed over £5 million in grants to charities and community groups.
Giles Ruck, Chief Executive of the Scottish Community Foundation, said: “We receive hundreds of donations each year. To make the process of giving as easy as possible, we take over all the legal responsibilities and liabilities for running each fund and ensure they comply with charity law. With his extensive experience and specialist knowledge of this area, Colin is a real asset to the Board.
“We are hugely grateful that Colin is taking time away from running his own very busy firm to help Scottish charities in this way. By securing his valuable support free of charge, it means we have more money to invest directly in the charities.”
