Fish merchants consult over legal action for failing to prevent illegal catches
A group of fish merchants claims the Socttish Executive is not doing enough to prevent an influx of illegally-caught fish.
The Fish Trade Equal Opportunities Group is consulting counsel with a view to legal action as it believes that as much as £80m worth of "black" fish is being landed in Scotland every year.
It blames the Scottish Fisheries Protection Agency for failing to carry out its legal obligations and claims its members are suffering as a result.
A letter laying out its intention has been sent to Ross Finnie, the Fisheries Minister.
