Executive claims early success for new trial procedures
Victims of crime and witnesses are already benefiting from the procedure reforms in the High Court, the Scottish Executive claims.
According to figures just released, in 75% of cases heard in the High Court since the changes came in on 1 April, some witnesses who would previously have been required to attend for trial have not had to attend. A total of over 1,000 witness citations have been saved.
Justice Minister Cathy Jamieson expressed herself "delighted" at the figures but warned against complacency in hoping that this success could be maintained.
