Dickson Minto WS is first Scots firm to adopt multi-national practice status

Dickson Minto has adopted multi-national practice (MNP) status under new Law Society of Scotland rules allowing the appointment of foreign partners.

The new rules, in force only this month, allow Scottish law firms to promote lawyers qualified in other countries, but not in Scotland, to partner level.

Andrew Nuthall, who has been with the firm in London for six years and is a qualified solicitor in New Zealand and England, becomes a partner this month following the firm's re-registration as MNP.

The Scottish Parliament recently passed the legislation allowing MNPs to come into existence and the Law Society of Scotland's annual general meeting in March passed the draft practice rules for regulation of MNPs.
