Lawyer loses unfair sacking claim

Dundee solicitor who admitted to fraud has failed to win her unfair dismissal claim

Litigation assistant Louise Hay, who was accused of fraudulently claiming thousands of pounds in tax credits, has lost her unfair dismissal claim.

An employment tribunal heard that Ms Hay was dismissed from the Dundee office of law firm Simpson & Marwick WS as her conduct "precluded" her from properly discharging her duties as an assistant solicitor.

The tribunal was told she continued to claim tax credits for childcare at Monifeith Out of School Care Club after her ex-husband's mother took over looking after the children.

She later pleaded guilty to obtaining tax credits of £5,187.78 by fraud, which she had then repaid, and was fined £750.

Mrs Hay had her complaint rejected by the tribunal.
