Lawyer sued for unpaid Update fees

Perthshire solicitor in hot water over £464 in seminar dues

A solicitor has been sued by the Law Society of Scotland for failing to pay money he owed the Society.

Pitlochry solicitor Deryck de Maine Beaumont signed up for a series of Update seminars run by the Law Society of Scotland but failed to pay anything of the £464.84 in fees he owed for courses dating back to last summer.

The Society raised a small claims action at Perth Sheriff Court, which was undefended, and last week a sheriff granted a decree against Mr Beaumont.

Mr Beaumont has previously had a finding of professional misconduct and inadequate professional services made against him by the Scottish Solicitors' Discipline Tribunal, but the Society said it was unlikely that further proceedings would be taken on this matter.
