Decision looms for Death Row Scot

22 Jun 05

Prosecutors will meet today to discuss whether to retry or free Kenny Richey

Prosecutors will meet today to consider the fate of Kenny Richey, the Scot on Death Row in Ohio for killing a child in a fire.

Edinburgh-born Richey has been behind bars for 18 years but his conviction and death sentence were overturned by an appeals court in April.

The decision whether to retry the entire case is in the hands of Putnam County prosecutor Gary Lammers, who will meet with representatives of Ohio Attorney General Jim Petro today. He has until 1 September to decide whether to retry Richey or set him free.

PR guru Max Clifford is reported to have been hired to co-ordinate Richey's publicity and control media access if and when Richey returns to Scotland.
