Glasgow University to become first in Scotland to set tests for applicant law students
Glasgow University is to introduce aptitude testing for applicants to take the law degree course there, it is reported in today's Herald.
Aptitude tests have already been adopted by some leading English universities, but have not so far been introduced in Scotland. The large number of applicants for the Glasgow degree combined with the increasing number who have straight A passes has prompted the change.
The test, comprising a multiple choice exam on problem solving and critical reasoning, will be used form next year. Scottish medical schools are considering similar tests from 2007.
