Prostitution tolerance zones for every local authority on the cards
The Scottish Executive is expected to announce plans for every local authority to have the power to set up managed tolerance zones for street prostitution, according to today's Herald.
Kerb crawling or soliciting would also be made an offence under the new proposals, which are designed to encourage women not to solicit in residential areas.
The proposals follow the recommendations of an expert working party earlier this year.
It is thought that 5,000 women work in the sex trade in Scotland, including 1,400 street prostitutes. Most of them work in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Dundee.
