The Scottish Executive has launched a consultation to establish whether vulnerable adults need more protection in community and regulated settings.
The consultation is looking for opinions on different issues such as whether there should be a list of people who should not work with vulnerable adults, similar to the one that already exists for children, and further protection for those with learning difficulties who are compulsorily detained in care homes or hospitals.
The consultation also asks about the use of more multi-disciplinary and inter-agency work to co-ordinate the prevention of abuse, right of entry to places where abuse of adults is suspected and the creation of expulsion orders to remove abusers from these settings.
Finally, it seeks views on the need for multi-agency protection committees that will manage adult protection policies and procedures.
The consultation paper can be viewed at http://www.scotland.gov.uk/Publications/2005/07/07110001/00032 . The consultation period ends on 24 September.
