Scotland's chief inspector of prisons to prepare report into Reliance
Dr Andrew McLellan is to begin a formal examination of prisoner escort services run by Reliance.
Pressure has been mounting for an investigation following a series of high profile blunders, including the accidental release of a convicted murderer.
However Dr McLellan was accused of taking too long after it emerged that he is unlikely to publish his findings until 2007.
Scotland's leading statisticians said the timeframe was not acceptable and that his counterparts in England and Wales have already managed to produce two thematic reports on prisoner escort services.
