Death of retired judge who criticised dependence on temporary appointments
The former Court of Session and High Court judge Lord Morison has died of cancer aged 74.
After stepping down from the bench in 1997, on which he had sat for over a decade, Lord Morison was reappointed as one of the retired judges who provide additional assistance. He resigned last year after criticising the increasing dependence on temporary appointments as undermining the independence of the judiciary.
Malcolm Morison was admitted to the Faculty of Advocates in 1956. As a judge his nickname was "Tiger" owing to his impatience if an advocate before him was not well prepared.
