Employment tribunal finds against Glasgow Council in case affecting 600
A Glasgow City Council employee has won a claim before an employment tribunal that could affect nearly 600 colleagues.
The tribunal found in favour of gardener Edward Cunningham, who maintained that the council had unlawfully deducted wages by failing to pay the proper amount of bonus payments.
The dispute arose after the council reached a collective deal on working hours within the land services department. The tribunal was satisfied that the unlawful deduction arose from a variation of Mr Cunningham's terms and conditions.
Compensation is to be determined at a further hearing but it is thought that the total amount payable to council workers will exceed £300,000. The council said it was considering its position in light of the judgment.
