Former fiscal David Hingston says present situation is not working

Former Procurator Fiscal David Hingston has called for all drugs to be legalised.

Mr Hingston was a fiscal for 26 years and now works as a defence solicitor in Inverness. He said that the present situation was not working and one way to change this would be to legalise all drugs. He added that there were more crimes committed because of alcohol than because of illegal drugs.

Mary Scanlon, the Conservative MSP for the Highlands and Islands, condemned Mr Hingston's comments as "naive and irresponsible", and that it sent out the wrong message to youngsters.
