Executive recommits to single survey

Mandatory system to go ahead despite criticisms of pilot scheme

The Scottish Executive has reaffirmed its commitment to bringing in the mandatory single survey for residential property sales, despite the evaluation of its pilot scheme recording considerable dissatisfaction with the system.

The 12 month pilot scheme was cut short in March after only 74 single surveys were commissioned. It is reported in the Herald today that the evaluation warns that no firm conclusions can be drawn from the information gathered because of the limited sample. However it records that sellers and buyers alike were unhappy with their experience of the scheme, as were surveyors and estate agents.

The legislation to implement the scheme is expected to be included in the Executive's Housing Bill. The Executive has not indicated what if any changes will be made as compared with the pilot scheme.
