Professor Alexander Cameron appointed as chair from 2006 until 2012
Professor Alexander Cameron has been appointed as the new chair of the Parole Board in Scotland, in succession to Professor James McManus.
Professor Cameron is currently the Executive Director of Social Work for South Lanarkshire Council, from which he is due to retire in March 2006. He has been a member of the Executive's Criminal Justice Forum.
The appointment runs from 1 January 2006 to 31 December 2012. It is a part-time post, remunerated at £33,415 for 100 days' work a year.
As chair, Professor Cameron will be responsible for the strategic development of the board's management.
Justice Minister Cathy Jamieson said: "Professor Cameron brings an extensive knowledge and practical experience of the Scottish criminal justice system to the board. He will be able to draw on his experience of risk assessment and management of offenders and the ability to balance their rights against the need for public protection."
