History of trouble results in closure of first domestic premises in Glasgow
A Glasgow flat owner yesterday saw his property become the first private residence in the city to be closed under the Antisocial Behaviour Act.
Unemployed David Haith (24), who inherited the Shawlands property from his late parents, was given just hours to leave after Sheriff Rita Rae ordered the closure of the flat for a three month period.
Neighbours had complained of all-night parties, drug taking and fighting at the property, and of intimidation by people shouting through their letterboxes.
The police, who applied for the order after an investigation, have locked and alarmed the premises for the duration of the renewable three month order. The application for the order was not contested by Mr Haith or his flatmate but the sheriff agreed to allow a surveyor into the flat in connection with a possible sale.
A spokesman for Glasgow Council said that alternative non-legal remedies had been attempted without success.
