Dumbarton Sheriff Court to be upgraded

Scottish Court Service announces £10 million improvement plan

The Scottish Court Service has announced a £10 million plan to upgrade and extend Dumbarton Sheriff Court.

The project is scheduled to begin in the summer of 2006 and be completed by April 2008. The court will close during the construction work and will be relocated at three sites close by.

Eleanor Emberson, chief executive of the Scottish Court Service, said: "Completion of the works will deliver a modern, five-court complex that fully meets the needs of SCS. The upgrade is aimed at improving customer service and will provide, for example, more segregated circulation routes and will address the complete absence of interview rooms in the courthouse."

Temporary housing during the construction work has been arranged by using vacant space in the nearby procurator fiscal's building and by the short-term lease of a vacant bank building in the High Street.
