Multinational status for Semple Fraser
Firms sees new status as a way to achieve plans for expansion
Semple Fraser has become the second law firm in Scotland to take on multinational partnership status.
The new status enables the firm to promote to partner level lawyers who qualified elsewhere. The first firm to take on multinational status was Dickson Minto earlier this year, following the amendment of the Law Society of Scotland's practising regulations.
Semple Fraser recently promoted commercial property expert Roger Clarke to the partnership. Mr Clarke had qualified to practise in Ireland, England and Wales, but not Scotland.
Alister Fraser, managing partner of Semple Fraser, said the firm saw itself as a UK business operating in the central belt of Scotland and the move to multinational status would allow the firm to achieve its goals. He added that the firm had increasingly been offering services on both sides of the border.
