Speculation over law firms merger

No comment from Bishops and Brodies on merger rumours
The law firms Brodies and Bishops have played down speculation that they are planning to merge, according to today's Herald.
Ann Macleod, Brodies' business development director, is quoted as saying that she knows of no discussions about a merger. Alasdair Fleming, Bishops' managing partner, said that all successful law firms such as Bishops and Brodies were subject to speculation of this nature, but that he did not comment on it.
Bishops has offices in Hamilton and Edinburgh in addition to its main presence in Glasgow, while Edinburgh-based Brodies has yet to set up an office in Glasgow. The article adds that Bishops with its public sector consultancy arm has succeeded in specialising in areas that would complement the range of services offered by a firm like Brodies.
Several larger Scottish firm are believed to have made initial approaches to Bishops, which has prospered since its 2002 demerger from an ill-fated union with Morisons.
