Law change for primary teachers

Repeal of Schools Scotland Code allows both primary and secondary teachers to swap
Scottish primary teachers can now teach in secondary schools, following a change in the law.
The change follows a repeal of the Schools Scotland Code. Secondary teachers already have the right to teach in primary schools, but this had not applied to primary teachers until now.
The change is likely to help the Scottish Executive fulfil its electoral pledge to cut class sizes in maths and English in secondary schools. It is also expected to make the transition to secondary school easier for pupils
Deputy Education Minister Robert Brown said the moves would help reduce bureaucracy and red tape about specific qualifications and allow teachers to try out different aspects of teaching.
