First overseas solicitor admitted to Law Society of Scotland

An 81-year-old Italian lawyer has become the first overseas practitioner to be admitted as a member of the Law Society of Scotland without requalifying in Scotland.

Gianni Manca has a practice in Rome and also runs the firm Manca Graziadei in Cockenzie, East Lothian. Under the Society's current rules an EU lawyer can apply for admission if they have practised in this country for at least three years and pass an aptitude test.

Mr Manca was one of 61 new solicitors admitted at a ceremony held by the Society on Friday.
