MMS also to merge its Scottish and English practices

Maclay Murray & Spens (MMS) is set to adopt limited liability partnership status.

The firm will also be merging its Scottish and English practices into a single legal entity – a “Scottish Multinational Practice” – under rules recently adopted by the Law Society of Scotland.

Both the change to LLP status and the merger come into effect on 1 July.

Magnus Swanson, chief executive of MMS, said: “Following Maclay Murray & Spens’ considerable expansion in recent years, LLP status is a very natural next step which will deliver real business benefits.

"The decision came after extensive consultation with our clients, who recognise and support the need for us to run our businesses in a responsible, transparent manner."

He added: "The result will be a far more efficient service for those clients operating across the border, allowing MMS to fully leverage its position as a truly UK-wide player, with expertise in each national jurisdiction."
