Planned August takeover will create 47-partner firm
Edinburgh law firm Brodies is to take over Glasgow's Bishops Solicitors next month, the Herald reports today.
The two firms have been in talks for almost a year and the merger will take effect from 7 August, creating a new firm with 47 partners, 200 fee earners and more than 300 staff. There will be no job losses.
Bill Drummond, Brodies' managing partner, said the Glasgow presence would give the firm's clients access to an even wider range of experience and expertise. Alasdair Fleming, managing partner of Bishops, added that joining forces offered great opportunities, with benefits for clients and staff.
Brodies LLP's income for the year to 31 March 2006, unveiled yesterday, increased by 14.2% to £20.94 million. Profits jumped by 26% to £8.48 million.
