Total number of solicitor advocates qualified in Scotland now stands at 215

A total of nine new solicitor advocates are due to be introduced at the Court of Session in Edinburgh tomorrow - 13 July.

Eight have been granted rights of audience in the High Court of Justiciary, Scotland’s highest criminal court, and one in the Court of Session, the highest civil court in Scotland.

This brings the total number of solicitor advocates qualified in Scotland to 215, practising criminal or civil law, or both. The nine come from firms in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Falkirk and Irvine.

Ruthven Gemmell, president of the Law Society of Scotland, will introduce the candidates to the court.

Mr Gemmell said: "I’m delighted to present the new solicitor advocates to the courts. Solicitor advocates play an increasingly important role in Scotland’s courts, with the services they provide enhancing access to justice and ensuring there is increased choice for clients.”
