HMRC to accept revised recommendations by Lord Carter
The government has accepted revised proposals to change self-assessment tax filing deadlines.
Paymaster-general Dawn Primarolo said HM Revenue & Customs would accept Lord Carter's amended recommendations that the self-assessment online filing deadline be 31 January and the paper deadline 31 October.
Lord Carter's original proposals would have brought forward the online deadline to 30 November and the last date for paper returns to 30 September. Accountancy and tax firms had protested that this would result in extra costs.
The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Scotland welcomed the decision while warning that some people would still have difficulty meeting the October deadline.
