Laura Gordon lands new role in Glasgow and Edinburgh collaboration project


A lawyer has been appointed to lead a collaboration project aimed at boosting the economies of Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Laura Gordon of Boyds Solicitors LLP, which has offices in both cities, is to head a team charged with creating a joint identity for the two cities to help them attract leading events and develop closer transport initiatives. The post, for two years initially, will be based in both cities. It is funded by by the two city councils and hosted by Scottish Enterprise.

Currently head of the technology and media group at Boyds, Ms Gordon takes up her post next month. She is also a director on the board of management for Glasgow Chamber of Commerce and is active within the Law Society of Scotland.

Speaking of her new role, Ms Gordon said she was thrilled with the exciting opportunity the position presented. Edinburgh and Glasgow, she added, "are each vibrant and dynamic cities but working together, they can be even greater. I believe that this project marks an important and significant new chapter in the future prosperity of the cities, and am delighted to be involved in driving forward what promises to be an extremely rewarding agenda, not just for the two cities, but for Scotland as a whole".

Lesley Hinds, Edinburgh's Lord Provost, said she was impressed by what Ms Gordon had achieved during her career to date and the wealth of experience she bought; and Steve Purcell, leader of Glasgow City Council, described the news as "an outstanding appointment".
