Dundee Council claims success for action team
A city council is claiming successful use of the Antisocial Behaviour (Scotland) Act in a drive to act on complaints of noise caused by neighbours.
Since the council's "Night Time Noise Team" was set up two months ago it has already dealt with about 600 complaints.
The team operates from 7pm through to 7am. Police pass on any complaints about noise disturbance and the team, if the noise level is found to be excessive, have power under the Act to issue verbal or written warnings, impose £100 fixed penalty notices (six have been issued) or confiscate offending equipment.
Leaflets explaining the scheme were delivered to residents. The council say that often it is enough to point out to people that their actions are causing a nuisance.
