More rights for parents at work under review
Minister planning greater flexibility around working hours and when children are sick
Constitutional Affairs Minister Harriet Harman is set to unveil plans to allow employees with children much more flexibility at work.
Ms Harman is considering allowing employees to be able to choose their own working hours and to be given a legal right to know what their colleagues are being paid to avoid discrimination. The proposals also include an entitlement to paid sick leave when children are ill.
The minister is said to be planning to announce her proposals in a speech to the Fawcett Society, a body which argues for greater female influence in politics, ahead of the Labour Party conference in September.
Ms Harman said Labour needed a robust and rigorous approach to public policy on the family.
