New face engages new lawyers
Three new appointments at the Law Society of Scotland include the Society’s first New Lawyers’ Coordinator.
Collette Paterson (25; above, left) joins the Society’s Education and Training Department from Dundas & Wilson’s Glasgow office, where she trained and practised, with the brief to engage with students, trainees and new lawyers on the Society’s work and the issues which are important to them, while also forging better links with relevant third parties, including the law schools, Diploma units and training firms.
The position will provide a focus for communication during the Society’s upcoming consultations on the route to qualification as a solicitor, and is the result of discussions with the Scottish Young Lawyers Association on how best to support future generations of solicitors.
The other two appointments are to the Law Reform Department. Alan McCreadie (40, centre), formerly a solicitor with Fife Council, is the new deputy director, acting as secretary to the criminal law committee in addition to undertaking parliamentary liaison work. His background equips him for the legal and administrative functions of his new role. Katie Hay (29, right) also joins the team, moving internally from the Client Relations Office where she was a helpline adviser. Katie will act as secretary to a number of committees and prepare policy papers and other documents.
