Burberry puts check on rickshaw's outings

"Chavrolet" taken off road after copyright threat

A motorised rickshaw decorated in a Burberry-type check and dubbed the "Chavrolet" has been taken off the streets after a threat of legal proceedings from the clothing company.

Rickshaw operators TucTuc had introduced 12 individually-designed vehicles in Brighton and Hove during the summer as a novelty form of transport. However Burberry's solicitors had complained of breach of copyright due to the Chavrolet's pattern being too similar to the well-known Burberry check, popular with the "chav" section of the public.

TucTuc said that the matter had been resolved amicably and the vehicle would be redesigned before returning into service.

Burberry has committed publicly to protecting its design against unauthorised copying or the use of any confusingly similar pattern.
