Continuing law reform role for CCBE vice president

Colin Tyre QC has been reappointed a part-time commissioner with the Scottish Law Commission.

Mr Tyre has served with the Commission for the past three years. His new term runs from 1 October 2006 to 30 September 2009.

An advocate since 1987 and Queen's Counsel since 1998, Mr Tyre has written and contributed to a number of books on tax law. He is first vice-president of the Council of the Bars and Law Societies of Europe (CCBE), and a former head of the UK delegation.

His particular responsibility with the Commission is with the joint project with the Law Commission for England and Wales on insurance contract law, and the commission’s current work on the law of trusts.

Mr Tyre will assume the presidency of the CCBE for 2007, and will only need to devote one-third of his time to Commission work during that year, with an equivalent reduction in his pay. The full time equivalent salary is £100,656.
