Pilot project aimed at increasing access to justice for ethnic minority communities

A new project aimed at increasing access to justice for ethnic minority communities across the central belt will be launched in Edinburgh tomorrow.

The Ethnic Minority Edinburgh Law Centre Project is a two-year pilot set up in partnership with the City of Edinburgh Council's Equalities Department and the Edinburgh Citizens Advice Bureaux (CABX).

The Ethnic Minority Law Centre has been providing access to justice for the ethnic minority communities in Glasgow and the surrounding areas since 1991. It provides free professional legal advice and representation in the specialist areas of immigration and nationality laws, asylum law, discrimination and employment law.

The pilot project is aimed at expanding service provision into the Edinburgh area and increasing access to mainstream services such as CABX for ethnic minority populations. The centre, which will open its doors in November, will be located at Morrison Street in the city.
