McGrigors smashes £50m turnover mark

Equity partner profits up to £279,000 as firm vies for top spot

Turnover for the Glasgow-based law firm McGrigors has gone through the £50 million mark for the past year.

The newly-released figures for 12 months until the end of September this year show that the firm has considerably narrowed the gap between it and Scotland’s biggest law firm, Dundas & Wilson.

McGrigors’ figures show a turnover of £52.1m, an 18% rise in total profits to £13m and a total of £1.8m in bonuses for its non-partner staff. The equity partners will receive profit-related payouts of about £279,000, 16% more than last year. Dundas & Wilson’s 12-month figures for the year to April 2006 showed a £53m turnover.

McGrigors is based in Glasgow and has offices in Edinburgh, London, Belfast and Aberdeen. It also has an office in Azerbaijan, following the acquisition of Ledingham Chalmers’ oil and gas team earlier this year. The firm now has 76 partners and more than 350 lawyers.

Managing partner Colin Gray said it had been a good year for the firm. Looking ahead, the firm would be concentrating on the infrastructure sector through PFI/PPP work. He also felt that the energy sector was buoyant and there was a real incentive for people to provide services to that sector.
