Council to debate motion to seek approval for byelaw
Aberdeen City Council is to consider moves to become the first area in Scotland to implement a complete ban on airguns.
Today's Press and Journal reports that Cllr Norman Collie will move at the next full council meeting on 28 February that the council support the measure, which would have to be implemented through a byelaw requiring Scottish Eecutive approval.
Cllr Collie said there had been shooting incidents in his ward and they were happening too often in the city. Whatever the reasons for having air weapons in rural areas, there was no need to have them in Aberdeen.
Firearms are reserved to the UK Government but the Executive has said that any proposed byelaw would be considered.
